Heart of Iron

Would that I had a heart of iron
Cold and hard as steel
A heart that would never grieve nor break
A heart that could never feel

A heart that was free from hope and despair
From love and from hate and from pain
A machine, nothing more, made of metal and wire
That would never betray me again

I would live out my life til the end of my days
Ne’er weeping nor mourning again
Adamantine and hard as a rock on an island of stone
In a sea of sand

I would listen watch for the ending of days
Prayers of thanks on my lips as I kneel
That I had been given a heart made of iron
A heart that was made out of steel
